Daniel García Diego Sextet at the Flamenco Biennial Intermezzo 2024

Flamenco-jazz pianist Daniel García Diego brings together in Amsterdam an international sextet of musicians with diverse musical backgrounds.
Flamenco Biennial is an international performing arts festival that, since 2006, has focused on flamenco. The event highlights new developments in the genre and showcases contemporary flamenco art, blending tradition with modern dance and music, including jazz, classical, baroque, and oriental influences. Through various creations and co-productions, it presents flamenco as a contemporary hybrid that preserves its essence while exploring new possibilities. The Biennial aims to expand flamenco beyond traditional boundaries, providing a platform for creators, performers, and innovative proposals within the genre.
In this context, pianist Daniel García Diego debuted in 2021, presenting his trio in the online and in-person edition of the festival. Since then, he has developed an international career, fusing flamenco and jazz, genres that he defines as “brothers”. In his albums Travesuras and Vía de la Plata, García Diego combines rhythmic, melodic and harmonic elements to create his musical style.
With his project The Shape of Fire, he explores new musical frontiers. This sextet, composed of musicians from different backgrounds (Netherlands, Iran, Austria, Armenia and Spain), seeks to transmit the energy and essence of music as a means of emotional connection and artistic expression. The line-up includes Daniel García Diego (piano, compositions and artistic direction), Ella Zirina (guitar), Arin Keshishi (electric bass), Mario Rom (trumpet), Shayan Fathi (percussion) and Delaram Kafashzadeh (vocals).
