Yerma

The play by Federico García Lorca will be performed in Dutch under the direction of Nathania Meye Velasquez, and Spanish singer Ana del Barrio Saiz will perform songs in Spanish.

Yerma is the second play of the dramatic trilogy of Federico García Lorca’s Spanish land, along with Bodas de sangre and La casa de Bernarda Alba. Premiered in 1934, it deals with the desire for motherhood, social pressure and marital conflict, reflecting the tensions of his time.

Written in prose and verse, it follows the story of a woman whose inability to conceive leads to a tragic outcome. The staging preserves these elements in a Dutch version, incorporating Spanish songs performed by Ana del Barrio Saiz.
